
Dr. Na Tosha N. Gatson, MD, PhD, is an Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) tenured professor of neurology, neurosurgery, and medicine. She is the Director of the Center for Neuro-Oncology as part of the Neuroscience & Cancer Institutes with IU Health. Dr. Gatson holds the distinction as a Master Clinician funded by the IU Health Foundation. Dr. Gatson is also distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and has served for over five years on a panel of experts to write national and international brain tumor guidelines
Prior to Dr. Gatson's appointment with IUSM/IUH, she served as the charter Medical Director of Neuro-Oncology at both Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Arizona, and Geisinger Health in Pennsylvania, demonstrating excellence in neuro-oncology program development. Dr. Gatson’s practice philosophy is rooted in compassionate and evidence-based care that extends quality LIVING. Her research is focused on population science, brain tumor imaging, brain/spine and leptomeningeal metastases and the Neuro-Oncology of Women (N.O.W. - a subfield she founded within neuro-oncology). Dr. Gatson is dedicated to patient health literacy and founded a nonprofit called, Living Oncology, which is a community outreach initiative aimed at educating physicians, patients, caregivers and scientists around advances in cancer care delivery.
Dr. Gatson treats over 120 named central nervous system tumors that are primary to the brain as well as metastatic from the body. She is a leading expert in the treatment of leptomeningeal metastases and treating neurological complications of cancer and/or cancer therapies. While Dr. Gatson specializes in adult neuro-oncology, she offers access to adolescent and young adults (AYA) patients with neuro-oncology conditions to support their autonomous transition into adult care. Outside of her academic pursuits, Dr. Gatson enjoys meditating, time with family, creative writing, weightlifting, mentoring and traveling.
